Achieving multiple conservation outcomes

georgelindsay4

The issue

Often conservation programs target practices rather than outcomes which makes it difficult to quantify the impact. In addition, they often focus on one conservation program such as water or carbon or soils. The focus of one conservation program on one outcome often benefits the target area but to the detriment of other outcomes.

Typical approach

  • A wide range of entities such as water conservation districts and soil health organizations have sprung up to raise capital to fund targeted conservation programs. Most often they focus on implementing practises rather than measuring outcomes.

The solution

  • Target several outcomes as the same time. And measure and predict outcomes achieved.

  • Implement

  • Applies data and science to identify the linkages between the growing conditions such as field conditions, practices, inputs, timing, and storage with one-to-many outcomes.

  • The linkages between growing conditions and outcomes are captured in a model that is used to:

  • Select fields with the highest probability of growing crops with the desired outcomes

  • Predict, Score, analyze performance

  • Identify field specific action to improve outcomes
